Cameron is being very, very silly

by David Walker on 3 November, 2014

What is the problem with the Conservatives???

The problem is that the Daily Mail and the Sun (inspired by the Australian/American Rupert Murdoch) are determined to undermine the biggest, most successful, most liberal and most worthwhile achievement of the last century… the creation of the European Union.

This is a move which must be stopped.

Cameron is now threatening to wreck all this on the basis of immigration. Is he not aware that the majority of immigrants to the UK are not from the EU? He just needs to look at the information from the Office of National Statistics.

His attempt to curtail the freedom of movement within the EU is a potential disaster.  My son is working happily and temporarily in Vienna, in a company of which he is a founder and which has had support from the Austrian government (which he did not get from the UK government). He may well move his company to Cambridge in the future. It is cloud/cuckoo land to think that the Austrians would allow this if we had limitations on Austrians working in the UK. The vast majority of the British (78%) are against any limitations on British citizens emigrating to other EU countries. Could this be described as hypocrisy !

Bringing the skills, abilities and cultures of Europe ever closer strengthens the whole of Europe. Restricting the free movement of EU citizens would immeasurably weaken Britain and the EU, and thus strengthen  the US and Russia. Only the very short sighted could support such a silly political movement.

Come on Cameron. Look at the facts and stop being frightened by UKIP.

Let us not forget that to withdraw from the EU means that Britain will not be represented in the Commission, in the Council of Ministers or in the European Parliament, but will still have to conform to EU regulations if we wish to trade with France, Germany etc. After Britain has left the EU these regulations will not be designed to support the British economy.

Lib Dems, get in there, let the Conservatives know that they have a problem and now need to work out a sensible message: in Europe working to reform Europe  .
