Terry Yardley Way

by David Walker on 27 October, 2009

Just after lunch today the Mayor, Cllr. Roy Brown, named the extension of Epinal Way which runs from the roundabout on the A6 (Quorn end) across the bridge on the Great Central Railway as Terry Yardley Way.

The Mayor spoke warmly Terry’s dedication to his work as a Councillor and of his enormous enthusiasm. Cllr. Geoff Gay, who had been tutored in the role of Ward Councillor by Terry spoke of the unending good work that he had done for the ward. Geoff was pleased that the Great Central Line steam trains, so beloved by Terry, will run under “his” bridge.

We had all be saddened by the early death of Terry and I am sure that everyone will be pleased that his contribution to Loughborough has been recognised in this significant and permanent reminder, on a road used by thousands of us every day.

As well as the family, Ann Watkinson, Chair of the Shelthorpe Community Association, both the Ward Councillors (Geoff Gay and Neville Stork) and the County Councillor (David Slater) for Terry’s constituency were present for the ceremony, together with the leaders of the three main political parties (Mike Preston, Max Hunt and myself).
