Euro-referendum; Opinions in Loughborough Market

by David Walker on 21 February, 2016

A very worrying two hours in the cold and wet in Loughborough Market on Saturday Morning, handing out leaflets and arguing the case for maintaining our vitally important role as one the three major powers at the heart of Europe.

Far too many people responded with “I’m for OUT” My guess is that it was running at over 50%.

When people did stop to give a reason it was “ruled by Bureaucrats in Brussels”, “need to control our own borders”, “we would be much better off trading with the rest of the world”. None of which are true or relevant.

By Jeremy Warner writing in the Daily Telegraph on 18 Feb 2016 said:

“Our economic debate on Brexit has descended into insultingly superficial scaremongering
We should have had a Royal Commission into the economic pros and cons of leaving the EU. Instead we are confined to little more than scaremongering propaganda and blind hope guesswork.”

Jeremy Corbet has argued that the everlasting continuing internal squabble in the Conservative Party has now been paraded in front of the world doing great harm.

Lib Dems have no doubts that the European Union has created a positive force for a future of fairness freedom and prosperity in a continent that has suffered from fascism, communism and wars for most of its history. Throwing this away with a vote for OUT would be a victory for negativity.

We need to be positive and vote IN for a positive future, taking a full part in the brightest and best part of the world.
